MicroMe
MicroMe is an innovative and cutting-edge project that aspires to explore and utilise our understanding of the gut microbiome and its relationship with bodily functions. MicroMe builds on recent development and studies in the field of gut microbiome showing that microbes play an essential role in regulating people’s dietary patterns as well as exposures to chronic disease. This project provides a new solution which uses fibre to stimulate the gut bacteria to produce short-chain fatty acids that synthesise insulin, which then regulate the blood sugar and the immune system. The project uses dietary fibre as a design tool to explore the possibilities of managing and controlling the gut microbiome in daily life. MicroMe attempts a technological breakthrough by utilising image recognition to identify and track fibre intake. Additionally, the project aims to raise awareness and educate society about microbiome science, making it more accessible to the general public.

Camberwell College of Arts has cooperated with King’s College Hospital to help doctors educate children and their families before surgery. Based on information provided by the hospital and interviews with patients, families and doctors, I have made models to help doctors discuss the risks, benefits and complications of the transplants. The aim of this project is to give psychological support to patients and their families in order to enhance the accessibility of the hospital’s services and improve the patients’ outcomes after transplantation.

Superform
The creation of a chair, an item of simplicity yet filled with many innovative possibilities, was a project that tested my design and hands-on creation potential. The topic I received was “repetition”, and the final product I’ve delivered was a chair made from steel but resembling the pattern and texture of soft pleats. The chair’s affinity with soft pleats created a repetition of rippling pattern around the chair which produced a calm and soft disposition. The soft nature, however, is contrasted sharply by the metallic materials used. The metals generated a stern, strong and even unyielding characteristics that, when juxtaposed against the repetitive and soft characteristics of the design, produced a piece of furniture that delivers a story of contrasting yet harmonizing ideas.
NOSTOS-Return to your Heart (Ripples)
The inspiration for this series of work is nostalgia. Despite the word originally referring to a new-observed physical ailment, people now disregard this meaning and instead focus on its psychological aspects. When a person feels nostalgia, they experience a bittersweet quality to the feeling, which is associated with a memory from the past. Based on my research, the memories between lovers is the most common form of memory to produce the bittersweet feelings of nostalgia. Additionally, nostalgia that is based on personal meaningful memory can be related to the Proustian hypothesis. The project discusses the relevance of smell as a design element and makes use of smells and products that deal with feelings of melancholy, and retain the pleasurable feelings of the memories, it endeavours to create a special experience for the user, and to an atmosphere in which they can relax.

Hugging yourself
A Design for the Self-Adjustment of Depressed Patients ‘It is difficult to make others understand how desperate a deep depression can make you feel, how lost, how cope-less, how grim. Moreover, no light at the end of the tunnel’. ——Martha Manning The aim of this project is to comfort depressed patients in their daily lives and treat depression via products cooperating with psychotherapy. After researching the causes and symptoms of depression, and interviewing doctors and patients, I have made a set of objects for depressed patients. The products can also be used by people with depressive tendencies to help them begin practicing emotional hygiene. The project is based on my personal experience of one of my friends with depression committing suicide last year which made me sad and caused me to understand that depression is not only a low mood. This project is devoted to exploring the possibilities of a new way to cure depression and helping depressed patients to avoid suicidal thoughts.
Retain Fleeting Love
Motion-Related Stimulating Design ‘What 'tis to love?’ - William Shakespeare There are songs, poems, novels, paintings and folk stories that describe love. However, love is like the moon; when it does not increase, it decreases. The aim of this project is to help people who are in a irrelationship to repeat the past and fall in love with each other again. This project tries to retain fleeting love after exploring what romantic love is by looking at psychological, physical, chemical and theological research and reading poetry from all over the world. Based on the misattribution of arousal and the effects of dopamine, this product could inspire affection between two people by producing stimulant effects to achieve a feeling of love.
